Durham pilot

Wellbeing App Pilot!

If you’re a 50+ Android smartphone user, and live in or near Chester-le-Street or Durham, you could help test a new wellbeing application for County Durham!

The application will help you find activities and events for your wellbeing in your local area – think group walks, yoga, coffee mornings, and much more! In addition, it will help you keep track of your physical activity, and report on many other wellbeing metrics!

What this is about

Supported by Durham County Council, Sentimoto will be piloting a smart phone application in November. The application РMy Kin Wellbeing Рaims to help people take control of their wellbeing by keeping track of wellness and signposting relevant local activities and support services around you. We are looking for community volunteers (Android phone users) to help us test the application and provide feedback.

To become a participant you need to:

  • own a phone that runs Android
  • ideally be based in the Durham / Chester-le-Street area
  • be aged 50+
  • install and try out the app on your phone for around 2 months starting in November
  • provide all-important feedback at the beginning and end of the pilot period

The pilot is now running – join by downloading the My Kin app!

What we are testing

Through this pilot, we will be looking to see if the My Kin application can help promote community engagement and increase the visibility of physical and social activities and support already present in County Durham. Our objective is to help reducing physical inactivity and social isolation through a fun and free application that encourages healthy lifestyles.

During the pilot, we will:

  • Run focus-groups to introduce the application and get some initial feedback

  • Send a questionnaire to obtain a baseline for how much users engage with physical and social activities

  • Ask you to download the application and keep it running for 2 months (November – January)

  • Send out an end-of-study questionnaire to see if there have been any changes to the baseline and what you liked and disliked about the app (end of¬†January)

How the suggestions work

The application sends through messages about local activities and events that we hope are a good mix: fun, interesting and suited to improving wellbeing. The providers for these activities are local volunteering associations, council-funded organisations, and community groups.

As we’re looking at a complete picture of wellbeing – physical, social, and mental – a wide range of activities are included, from exercise classes to volunteering opportunities, from dancing to art groups, from archaeology to yoga. We hope that there will be something on there that you will enjoy and take on!
